勵誌英語故事：女人為什麽撒謊
如果妳認為妳的女人從不會對妳撒謊，請再仔細考慮壹下。大部分女人，小到善意的謊言，大到更為嚴重的假話，都會在牽涉到某種關系的某壹點時掩飾真相。她的撒謊動機也許是想要保護妳的情感，或者是，可以相當肯定地說，維護她自身的利益。
One day, when a seamstress was sewing while sitting close to a river, her thimble fell into the river. When she cried out, the Lord appeared and asked, My dear child, why are you crying? The seamstress replied that her thimble had fallen into the water and that she needed it to help her husband in making a living for their family. The Lord dipped His hand into the water and pulled up a golden thimble set with sapphires.
有壹天，壹個女裁縫坐在河邊幹活時，不小心把頂針掉進了河裏。當她大聲哭喊時，上帝出現了，問她：我親愛的孩子，妳為什麽哭啊？女裁縫回答說，她的頂針掉進河裏了，她很需要這個頂針，好用它來幫助丈夫為壹家人謀生。上帝把手伸進河裏，撈上來壹個金燦燦的鑲嵌著藍寶石的頂針。
Is this your thimble? the Lord asked The seamstress replied, No.

The Lord again dipped into the river. He held out a golden thimble studded with rubies.
上帝又把手伸進河裏。他這次手上拿著的是壹個金燦燦的鑲嵌著紅寶石的頂針。
Is this your thimble? the Lord asked. Again, the seamstress replied, No.
這是妳的頂針嗎？上帝問道。女裁縫再次回答：不是。
The Lord reached down again and came up with a leather thimble.
上帝再次把手伸進河裏，這次他手上拿的是壹枚皮制頂針。
Is this your thimble ? the Lord asked. The seamstress replied, Yes. The Lord was pleased with the womans honesty and gave her all three thimbles to keep, and the seamstress went home happy.
這是妳的頂針嗎？上帝問道。女裁縫回答：是的。上帝很為女人的誠實高興，就把三個頂針都給了她，女裁縫高高興興地回了家。
Some years later, the seamstress was walking with her husband along the riverbank, and her husband fell into the river and disappeared under the water. When she cried out, the Lord again appeared and asked her, Why are you crying? Oh Lord, my husband has fallen into the river!
幾年以後，女裁縫和丈夫沿著河岸走著，突然她的丈夫掉進了河裏，消失在水下。女裁縫大哭的時候，上帝又出現了，問她：妳為什麽哭啊？主啊，我的丈夫掉進河裏了！
The Lord went down into the water and came up with George Clooney. Is this your husband? the Lord asked.
上帝到了河裏，把喬治-克魯尼救了上來。這是妳的丈夫嗎？上帝問道。
Yes, cried the seamstress. The Lord was furious. You lied! That is an untruth! The seamstress replied, Oh, forgive me, my Lord. It is a misunderstanding. You see, if I had said no to George Clooney, you would have come up with Brad Pitt.
是的，女裁縫喊道。上帝大怒。妳撒謊！那不是真話！女裁縫回答道，噢，我的主，請寬恕我。這是壹個誤會。妳瞧，如果我對喬治說：不，妳會再救上來壹個布萊德-皮特。
Then if I said no to him, you would have come up with my husband. Had I then said yes, you would have given me all three. Lord, Im not in the best of health and would not be able to take care of all three husbands, so THATS why I said yes to George Clooney.
那麽如果我對他說不，妳又會把我丈夫救上來。如果我說是的，妳會把他們三個都給我。主啊，我身體不太好，不能把三個丈夫都照顧好啊，所以我就對喬治-克魯尼說是了。
And so the Lord let her keep him.
而上帝因此就讓女裁縫留著喬治做丈夫了。
