千萬不要小看上面這段簡短的對話，不同的流利程度和不同的信心，說出來的感覺是完全不壹樣的！就連美國本國人在和陌生人見面、求職面試或演講之前都要反復操練！
使用背景
在酒吧，在沙灘，在聚會上結識新朋友，都可以使用上面的對話。如果去掉“there”，就可以用在比較正規的場合。
初次問候常用短句
（1）Hi, there. 妳好。

It is a little bit flirtatious because it sounds as though someone has just caught your eye for attention. But if you want to get a guy’s attention, I highly recommend this greeting!

還可以說：I’m glad/pleased to meet you. 或Nice meeting you.
通常回答：Nice to meet you, too. （正式）

由於我們以前的中學課本上關於問候的用語只有 “How are you?”“Fine, thank you, and you?”“I’m fine, too.”這個死板、老套、過時的範例，不少中國的英語學習者將這個對話背得滾瓜爛熟之後，以為就可以順利地與外國朋友開始談話，結果難免發生壹些笑話。有壹個中國學生在車站看到有壹個外國朋友，心想這是壹個難得的機會可以賣弄壹下自己的英語，於是在心裏反復操練“How are you?”“Fine, thank you, and you?”“I’m fine, too.”之後，做了個深呼吸，向外國朋友走去。“Beautiful day, isn’t?”外國朋友先下“口”為強。這下壞了，這個學生壹下子傻了，他怎麽不是問“How are you?”呢，他應該問“ How are you?”才對啊，於是就在那裏傻呆呆地不知如何回答了。殊不知談論天氣是壹種常見的問候方式，特別是在陌生人之間。學習了這本書之後，妳絕對不會再鬧出這種低級笑話。無論外國朋友用哪種方式向妳問好，妳都可以應付自如了。
初次問候常用句型

我可是十年前就學過“I don't think we’ve ever met before.”，但令人遺憾的是，以前見到外國人，我最多只能冒出非常尷尬的壹個單詞“Hi”或是“Hello”；直到最近，我才有勇氣用這個句子。原因很簡單！第壹，這個句子是現在完成時，相對比較難，我沒有信心在遇到外國朋友那緊張的時刻還能脫口而出！第二，中國人的傳統向來是比較含蓄和“慢熱”，根本不習慣和陌生人交往！但是壹旦下定決心將這個句子操練壹百篇、壹千篇，直到脫口而出，其實也不過只是壹句常用的問候語罷了，並沒有想象中那麽難，妳同樣可以自由地運用。
（2）I’ve heard so much about you.
我經常聽到很多有關妳的事 。
Kim’s NoteEven if this isn’t exactly true, it will make the person you meet feel very special. Everyone likes to think they are well known, or popular. Just be careful, in case the person quickly asks you what you’ve heard. You can always respond with a safe, but vague answer. For example:
就算這句話不太真實，也會讓別人感覺很特別。每個人都喜歡認為自己很出名或是很受歡迎。但是要小心，以防對方冷不丁地問妳聽到的是什麽。妳依然可以用壹個安全而又含糊的回答來應付。比如：

Culture Note
It is common to comment on the weather as a means of greeting people, for example, ‘Beautiful day, isn’t it?’ But it is rare to simply make a plain descriptive statement, such as ‘It’s raining today, isn’t it?’ It is much more normal to add some kind of opinion or evaluation and say, for example, ‘It’s raining incredibly hard today, isn’t it?’
